Football and Business: The 2-Minute Drill

I’ve always said that football and business go hand in hand.  Here’s why:

“Most games are won in the last two minutes.” said Vince Lombardi, the famous NFL coach. Do you have a two minute drill to win the game? Are you a clutch player? Like a quarterback, you need tremendous focus, concentration and competitiveness in business. You need the ability to make your team believe they can do the impossible. In football the impossible is driving 90 yards in less than 90 seconds.

First, you need to be incredibly prepared (thus the two minute drill) and a little talent won’t hurt.

  • How well do you play under pressure when you have to win?
  • How do you step it up a notch?

What do you do when you have two minutes?

Holding the score in the context of winning, which is how hold your future   Are you proficient in this strategy called “the 2-minute drill” are called “clutch.”

  • What will it take for you to achieve perfection in “the clutch”?

When you have gotten four “No’s” in a row in your marketing calls and your goal is to set two appointments, what do you do when it’s almost lunch time? Do you think to yourself, “Oh, I’m not going to make it. I’m getting a lot of ‘No’s, so I may as well go to lunch.”

Don’t succumb to the myth of the downward spiral.  DO IT!  Set those two appointments in the next two minutes!

This is the first in a series of 4 Tactics to Triumph in Tough Times. . .stay tuned!

Hopefully, business will pick up during the next four months!

And when chaos is breaking out all around you, you need to focus on where you are, where everyone else is, and get the job done. It works the same in football and business: The game is not over until the final whistle is blown!
